Protection of the environment/creation and climate change

The Polish Ecumenical Council takes initiative in order to increase responsibility for the natural environment. In 2010 the Polish Ecumenical Council organized symposia regarding the protection of creation: 3rd European Symposium “Preserving Creation – challenges and opportunities for church involvement in climate and environmental issues” (Schwerte, Germany) and „Eco-theology in pastoral practice. Current state and future goals” (Warsaw). We also cooperate with international ecumenical environmental organizations such as the European Christian Environmental Network (ECEN).

The Commission for Dialogue of the Conference of the Polish Episcopate and the Polish Ecumenical Council is preparing a document to remind Churches of their responsibility for Creation. The aim of this document is to encourage Churches to become more involved in the cause of natural environment protection and take practical actions through education, raising ecological awareness, including ecological subjects in services and cooperation with other institutions in their local environment.

We want the document regarding the protection of creation to be read on a certain Sunday during the Polish Presidency in the European Union in all PEC and Roman Catholic Churches.
